A 52-year-old Kenyan Patient, George was diagnosed with Diabetes in 1999. His diabetes caused renal complications in his body that worsened in the form of renal failure in 2018.
His condition has become so bad that his whole body became swollen, he couldn’t go to the washroom, and he had high sugar and blood pressure all the time.
George came to India, at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi, and underwent a successful Kidney transplant surgery. His case was supervised by Dr Anant Kumar, the renal transplant expert at the hospital.
George was “very sick because his serum creatinine was very high, he had fluid overload. His blood sugar and blood pressure were uncontrolled. So, initially, we dialyzed him, taking out the extra fluid from the body, controlling his blood sugar and blood pressure.” Later it was decided that he has to undergo a kidney transplant, said Dr Anant Kumar.
George’s son decided to donate his kidney to his father, who could not see his father’s condition anymore and came to India after doctors discussed the reports with him.
The transplant was performed using a robotic technique which helped George in recovering faster, both his son and he are recovering well from the surgery and will be going back home soon.
