Patient: Aisha Al Riyami

Age: 45

Country: Oman

Problem: Low Back Pain

Doctor: Dr Mazda K Turel

Hospital: Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai

Dr Mazda Turel, Neurosurgery Consultant at Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai talks about a Omani Patient, discussing the complexity of her case and how she was treated with minimally invasive spinal procedure.

“An interesting case of a 45-year-old lady was presented to us, with lower back pain which was radiating into her legs, specifically to the anterior aspect of the legs for over 3 to 4 months now. She found it extremely difficult to walk and because of this she had rheumatoid arthritis for 10 to 15 years, with fibromyalgia, a condition in which patient has severe pain in the entire body for another five years. ”

“Her MRI showed multi-level degeneration and compression of the thecal sac and the exceeding of the roots.”…. “I realised that her pain was coming from two specific levels, and addressing these two levels minimally invasive fashion would result in a good outcome for her. So, we did a minimally invasive surgery, using incision of 2 cm long, after the surgery her nerves were completely free” Said Dr Mazda Turel.
