Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket, New Delhi has given new hope to patients with an end-stage heart failure condition.
During a press conference today, Dr KK Talwar, the Chairman of Cardiology Department at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket revealed the following details.
“Smoking, eating junk and less physical exercise are severely affecting today’s youth and such lifestyle results in high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and coronary artery disease, which further leads to heart ailments. These are major risk factors for heart failure. In addition, the rheumatic valvular disease also continues to be an important cause of heart failure in our population”, Dr Talwar stated.
He said that the therapeutic treatment and medical procedure might help however some patients might remain afflicted or there heart condition can keeps on getting aggressive.
“For patients with end-stage heart failure, who cannot be benefited by medical therapy, heart transplant and ventricular assisted device are the only two options”……“Max Hospital, Saket runs the largest heart failure program in India. “Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) comes as the one and only route for those battling with end-stage heart failure when a donor's heart is not available”, he added.
In end-stage heart failure cases when the patient’s heart is too weak for effectively pumping the blood, an LVAD is implanted in their heart chambers which helps the heart in pumping oxygen-rich blood in the body.
