What is the eligibility criteria and formality for getting a medical visa to India?

A patient is given a medical visa for seeking treatment in another country’s renowned hospitals only for medical purpose. The visa is granted for maximum one year and the patient can take two attendants along, who should be family members of the patient or close acquaintances.

What all documents are necessary for applying medical visa to India?

  • Original passport, reflecting a validity of more than six months and two blank pages.
  • Duly filled online application form’s copy.
  • Two clear coloured photographs of 2-inch x 2-inch size in white background, the photos should not be passport size.
  • A letterhead from the local hospital reflecting the medical history of the patient along with the referral statement of the doctor.
  • A letter of acceptance from the hospital, reflecting the approximate cost of the treatment along with tentative duration.
  • Return airline ticket copy.

Note: If a non-citizen residing in Fiji, Tonga, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Nauru and Cook Islands on work/resident/exemption permit wishes to seek medical visa or medical attendant visa, then the applicant must submit a copy of work or resident permit and must fill an extra form. What is the medical visa processing fee?

Getting visa from Fiji to India for medical purpose is a hassle-free experience. It costs FJ$ 115 and the fee can be paid in cash at High Commission’s office. The payment can also made via cheque lest the application is sent by post. Applicants who are not citizens of Fiji, Tonga, Tuvalu, Nauru, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Cook Islands must incur an additional fee. Fret not; even Fiji dollars are accepted.

How many days does it take to process medical visa fee?

Once the medical visa application has been successfully submitted in Fiji and if the payment has been made in cash then it takes 2 working days. If the medical visa is paid via cheque, then the processing time extends to 5 – 6 working days. Patients take note, personal cheques are not accepted. Non-citizens of Fiji, Tonga, Tuvalu, Nauru, Kiribati, Vanuatu and Cook Island also get their medical visas in 5 – 6 days.

What is the procedure for medical visa extension in India?

Visa extension is required when a patient undergoing treatment is advised extended stay for his/her treatment. The formalities for getting medical visa extension involve getting an official document from the hospital in which one is undergoing treatment, reflecting the medical treatment procedure of the patient and the additional extension of treatment and recovery duration. The visa documents and all other formalities would be conducted in FRRO (Foreign Regional Registration) office.

What is the procedure for medical tour to India with E-tourist visa?

Various terms and conditions for getting medical E-tourist visa are as follows:

  • Individuals on a short tour for medical purpose. 
  • Non-Indian residents and the ones who are not employed in India.
  • Patients who have a passport with a validity of more than six months and a re-entry permit.
  • Patients who are financially stable and well established

The limitations surrounding E-Tourist Visa is that it is valid only for 30 days and cannot be extended or converted to any other kind of visa during their stay in India.

The cost of an e-tourist visa is USD 60 or the equivalent amount in the Indian Rupee per person. Parents take note, even children must incur this visa cost.

The visa is granted for 16 designated international airports in India and can be given twice a year to a citizen of another country.
