Patient: Antonio Yakub

Country: Ethiopia

Condition: Severe Back Pain

Treatment: Spine Surgery

Doctor: Dr Bipin S Walia

Hospital: Max Hospital, Gurugram

Mr Antonio Yakub is a heavy duty mechanic who fell down the machine while working and broke his backbone. His family tired finding appropriate treatment in Ethiopia but was unable to find any. During this time his condition was also getting worse.

Most hospitals in Ethiopia told his family to lose all hope and refused to perform the surgery. So, then they started looking for treatment facilities in other countries and choose Max Hospital in Gurugram, India.

The patient’s “essential problem was back pain, progressive difficulty in walking with the result that he became bed bound. He also had difficulty in controlling his urine and stool” said Dr Bipin S Walia.

The patient had “compression, most probably because of a tumor in the dorsal spine. After his full evaluation for fitness for anesthesia, he underwent surgery, and in the surgery, we removed the tumor and stabilized his spine using 8 screws” Added Dr Bipin.

Mr Antonio had an excellent recovery after the surgery. His progress was also satisfactory. Antonio who had been dependent for a while has become completely independent after the surgery.
