6 Month Zimbabwe Baby underwent Successful Heart Surgery in India

Patient: Baby Zane
Country: Zimbabwe
Age: 6 Months
Condition: Birth Defect in the Heart + Blue Baby Syndrome
Doctor: Dr Suresh Joshi │ Director of Pediatric & Congenital heart care
Hospital: Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai
Baby Zane Munopa Chirowa, from Zimbabwe, was diagnosed with multiple heart defects after 3 days of her birth. Her medical reports showed a Mema in her heart. The baby had also developed blue baby syndrome because of the lack of oxygen in the blood.
The parents overwhelmed by the news couldn’t see the difference in their baby at the time of her birth. However, as months passed, they could see Zane’s condition getting worse, and they decided to seek medical treatment in India, because of the affordable cost of medical services here.
They took Zane to Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai, and her case was supervised with Dr Suresh Joshi, India’s number one pediatric cardiologist.
Zane had “a very complex defect of the heart called blue baby syndrome, which means she had more than two defects in the heart. This resulted in the circulation of impure blood in the body that turned her skin color into blue. In a normal person, the oxygen level is about 95% in the heart, and this girl had only 70%” said Dr Suresh Joshi.
He also added, “she underwent corrective open heart surgery which went successfully and was able to recover well, so much, so she was ready to go back to her within two weeks.”
